IJCCI was established in 1998 in Chennai and thereafter since 1991 it serves as a catalyst for bridging Japanese business interest in India and vice versa in the wake of economic liberalization.  The primary task of this organization is bilateral business facilitation along with business promotion, Japanese language teaching and  promotion of art and culture.

IJCCI has been regularly organizing business seminars, lectures and one-to-one meetings with representatives of the Central and the State Governments for the benefit of Japanese and Indian companies. The organization also facilitates interaction between visiting Japanese businessmen and local government officials and nodal agencies, Chambers of Commerce and Business Representatives.

IJCCI has been instrumental in organizing interactive sessions for visiting Japanese Business Missions such as Economic Missions from Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Japan Overseas Development Corporation, Industrial Teams from different regions, High Level Missions dispatched by the Government of Japan, with there counterparts in India.

IJCCI plays a vital role as an industrial consultant, investment promoter and business facilitator between Japan and India .
